Until recently, Dahabshiil, a leading financial services and funds transfer company in the Horn of Africa for the Somalian Diaspora, operated throughout Somalia, even in the zones held by the Al-Shabaab radical Islamists, without encountering any major problems. However, the explosion at its Mogadishu headquarters in the Bakara market on 2 April could be a turning point for it. Since then, many of its clients have asked their relatives abroad to use a different company to send them their monthly remittance, citing security issues as the reason.
