Al-Shabaab militants in the port city of Kismayo are recruiting casual labourers in the area in effort to hunker down for battle with advancing Kenyan, and Somali government troops in the region.

Area Al-Shabaab leader Abdirahman Fidow dockworker in Kismayo port are required to immediately register with them in order to join and support their militant fighters battling the allied forces in the region.

Dockworkers in the area expressed their dissatisfaction with the rebel order, saying that they will not take part in the group’s activities in the region.

Al-Shabaab’s call comes as the group faces opposition on several fronts, with already allied forces in Hiran and Bay regions almost taking over all rebel held positions in these regions.

Kenyan and TFG forces are also pushing the rebel group towards Kismayo, a very key town in southern Somalia.
