Puntland accused the two TV stations for continuing their coverage inside Puntland illegally despite the suspension

Garowe (Sunatimes) Somalia’s breakaway region of Puntland on Sunday issued a final warning to two Somali TV stations, Universal TV and Somali Channel TV, days after it has suspended them from its region.

In a press release, Puntland said it is issuing a final warning to Universal TV and Somali Channel TV to immediately cease working inside Puntland “secretly”.

After a meeting attended by Director-Generals of various ministries including Ministry of Information and Ministry of Security as well as Deputy Attorney-General; Police Official in charge of Communications and other officials, Puntland urged these channels to respect its order of suspension.

Puntland accused the two TV stations for continuing their coverage inside Puntland illegally despite the suspension.

It has also accused the representatives of the two TV stations of making inappropriate public remarks using the media as well as inciting the public.

Government agencies were given the green light to take “necessary actions” in line with the laws and regulations of Puntland, if the two broadcast stations remain adamant of the suspension.

The Media Association of Puntland (MAP) has also been ordered to keep track of media affairs, particularly steps taken by Universal and Somali Channel TVs.
