Galkao (Sunatimes) Security officers from Galmudug and Puntland states of Somalia have arrested several people accused of causing insecurity in Mudug region.

The two regional states separately conducted operations aimed at cracking down people suspected of being security threats in the area.

Galmudug regional police boss, Abdi Jama’ Habeb, said that they have conducted a full scale operation in areas between Galinsor and Galkayo town and netted nine people suspected of being part of a group of armed gangsters who have been robbing passengers onboard vehicles plying the route.

The police boss also added that they have arrested four other people accused of robbing off people’s property like mobile phones and money, in a separate incident south of Galkayo town.

He said that all the suspects in custody will be investigated and vowed to continue their operations to flash out and arrest gangs in the region.

And on the other hand, security personnel in northern Galkayo under the authority of Puntland state of Somalia have conducted similar operations aimed at bolstering security in the region.

Officials in the area said that they have arrested several people during the operation and are currently under investigation.
