Relief operations have been constrained by the security situation in Somalia

London (Sunatimes) British aid agencies are preparing to expand their humanitarian activities in Somalia to help thousands of people at risk of starvation in the war-tone country which is the hardest hit country in the East Africa.

British charities are preparing to increase their work in southern Somalia as thousands of people continue to flee into Kenya, Ethiopia and even Somalia’s war-torn capital Mogadishu.

Relief operations have been constrained by the security situation in Somalia but Al-Shabaab last week announced it was lifting a ban on foreign aid organizations because of the severity of the drought.

Most international aid agencies in Somalia have been banned from working in areas under the control of Al-Shabaab militia group which controls parts of Southern Somalia.
