Somalia police force marked its 69th anniversary today in the capital Mogadishu.

The ceremony was held at the General Kahiya police training school.

Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon and some of his cabinet attended the ceremony.

The police force was created in 1943.

Today’s ceremony comes as Somalia government is in full control of Mogadishu and large swathes of the neighboring areas.

The security situation in Mogadishu has significantly improved following the ousting of Al-shabaab militants a year ago.
