On behalf of the British Government, I congratulate President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on his inauguration today in Mogadishu.
As Prime Minister David Cameron said last week, this is an historic moment for Somalia and for the Somali people - a moment built on the successes of recent years and the commitment and dedication of Somalia's leaders to work together to forge a brighter future. I pay tribute to that commitment.

"As I assured the President last week, the UK will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Somali people in partnership as this new era unfolds.

The British Government looks forward to working in close collaboration with both the President and the Speaker of Parliament as they seek to take Somalia forward in a renewed spirit of transparent and accountable leadership."
Thanks
