Somalia Electoral Commission has given reasons behind the postponement of the election of the speaker that was earlier slated for today (Sunday, 26 August, 2012).
Commission’s spokesman Osman Libah Ibrahim who spoke to Sunatimes said that the election will be held next Tuesday as that has been their initial proposal and will instead today hear from to aspirants who will submit their manifesto. He said six aspirants are now contesting for the speaker’s position while 15 others are contesting for the positions of the two deputies, making a total of 21 aspirants. Ibrahim further said the presidential election will be held few days after that of the speaker and his two deputies-but did not say exactly when. He added that his team will also conduct and oversee the upcoming presidential election just like that of the speaker. |
