TFG, AMISOM troops attack al-Shabaab bases in the outskirts of Mogadishu

Somalia’s troops backed by African Union forces in Mogadishu have on Tuesday morning launched a heavy assault against al-Shabaab bases in the outskirts of the Somali capital, Mogadishu, reports say.

Heavily armed AMISOM forces and TFG troops reportedly attacked al-Shabaab military bases at the outskirts of Daynile neighbourhood.The attack prompted full scale confrontations between the allied forces and the rebel fighters.

AMISOM deputy spokespersonGilbert Nitunga told Sunatimes that the carefully planned operation is aimed at bringing security to the people of Elasha Biyaha area and Afgoye in Lower Shabelle region.

No official figures on casualties have been reported so far.
