Al-Shabaab militants on Tuesday vacated their positions in parts of Galgadud region following reports that Ahlu Sunna militias backed by allied Ethiopian troops were advancing towards these areas.

Confirming the incident, Ahlu Sunna’s El-bur security boss, Abdi Hassan Mohamned told Sunatimes that Al-Shabaab militant fighters were seen emptying their bases in Ja’ar, Gal-hareri and Bargan areas located along the administrative border between El-Bur and El-der districts.

He said the militants were deserting their bases in large numbers in fear of renewed assault from the allied forces who are now heading towards these areas.

He however promised to embark on humanitarian and security operation in the areas the militant group vacated and urged people who fled these areas to come back home as their security will be assured.

Meanwhile, Mohamed alleged that heavily armed militants led by the group’s leader Yussuf Sheikh Isse alias Kaba-kutukade from Middle Shabelle region were reportedly seen today heading towards Golis Mountains in Puntland.
