Hobyo (Sunatimes) The Somali pirates have hijacked a ship owned by South Korea which was enroute to Singapore, reports confirm.
Fourteen crew members, who were mostly South Korean, were on board the ship when it was hijacked. The ship’s communication with its control was lost while sailing close to the waters of Somalia. The ministry for foreign affairs of the South Korean government said they are petrified about the whereabouts of the ship which its tones was estimated to be 75 thousand.
There are no reports from the Somali pirates who are believed to have hijacked the ship.
The special forces of the South Korean government have carried out attacks on a ship hijacked by the Somali pirates killing 10 in the course.
Piracy has thrived off the coast of Somalia despite an international anti-piracy naval operation using force when there is an imminent threat to the hostages.Somalia’s long coastline is substantially ungoverned. Armed groups have taken advantage of the lack of a sovereign government.
