Mogadishu (Sunatimes) –
Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya Amb. Mohamed Ali Nur (Ameriko) alarmed the
international aid agencies to start emergency intervention relieving the
draught affected people in Somalia.
Amb Ameriko confirmed that there is large humanitarian crisis in Somalia which
affected millions of people who are in need of emergence relief.
”The situation of the draught affected people in Somalia is worsening time by
time and this is the worst time” said the ambassador, Ameriko.
“People are starving, they are in danger, so, we need emergency relief” he
continued.
“I urge the UN agencies, international relief NGOs and the good
Samaritans to stand for the relief of the people who are in a dire situation,
we need to assist them now before they start dying” he added.
The ambassador currently visited some areas in Mogadishu and other places in
southern Somalia, where he surveyed the situation of hundreds of people who
fled from areas controlled by the warring functioning against the transitional
federal government of Somalia.
“The government had seized some districts in Mogadishu from Alshabab
insurgents, the people are moving to those places so that they can be in a
place where the aid agencies can come and help them” he said.
“So, there is no way to wait, the aid agencies have to move to the places and
help the people” he urged.
Ambassador Ameriko urged the Somali business men in Kenya and in Somalia to
establish fund raising events to collect money for the people in need and start
emergence intervention.
The ambassador also urged the aid agencies to go to the Somali towns in
Somalia-Kenyan border which are newly liberated from Alshabab militants and
help the people who are affected by the war and dire humanitarian crisis.
The Somalia Ambassador in Nairobi is considered as an ambassador overwhelmed by
humanity for his tireless efforts to help the Somali refugees in Kenya apart
from his outstanding diplomatic mission in Kenya.
He currently released hundreds of Somali youth from Kenyan jails and resettled
them in the refugee camps after they were arrested by Kenya police accusing
them of illegally staying in Kenya.
