Bosaso (Sunatimes) The association of the Eastern region fishermen has on Saturday held a meeting with the security officials of the region over the threats posed by the pirate groups.
The fishermen complained that Somali pirate gangs operating in the area were stealing the motors of their boats.
Mohamed Abdullahi, one of the fishermen who attended the meeting said there were many fishing boats whose motors were taken away by pirates. Abdullahi said they asked the local authorities to give them security for them to continue operating.
Many fisherman quit fishing after their boats and other fishing equipments were either forcefully taken away or stolen by sea gangs.
