Jowhar (Sunatimes)Veterinary officials have just concluded a livestock vaccine exercise in the Lower Shabele region.
The officers embarked on the exercise two weeks ago when some of the animals started showing signs of diseases connected to the ravaging drought across the country.
The vets said that they have vaccinated over 8,600 livestock mainly cattle and goats to protect them from disease. The officials have also treated hundreds of other animals that have been affected by diseases.
The seasonal long rains are also expected in most parts of Somalia. It is feared that the rains will kill the few animals who survived the drought as they remain weak and vulnerable to cold and winds associated with the rain.
