    Somali Refugees Protest in Mandera

    Some of the protesters accused the UNHCR of doing little to help them. They claimed officials from the UN Agency have been making promises to them but did not do anything so far.

Some of the protesters accused the UNHCR of doing little to help them. They claimed officials from the UN Agency have been making promises to them but did not do anything so far.

Mandera(Sunatimes) Somali refugees who recently fled the fighting that was going on in Belt Hawo district of the Gedo region and settled in Kenya’s Mandera district have demonstrated on Wednesday afternoon.

The refugees were asking the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to take them to the refugee camps where services are offered.

The demonstrators complained that they were lacking shelter and food. The people who were displaced by the fighting between Al-shabab and government forces in the Gedo region currently stay in a football pitch in Mandera district of Kenya.

Some of the protesters accused the UNHCR of doing little to help them. They claimed officials from the UN Agency have been making promises to them but did not do anything so far.

They also asked other international aid groups to help them with food and othe relief supplies.
