Gedo (Sunatimes) Al-shabab militants have withdrawn their fighters from the whole of Gedo region.

The insurgents went away after Ahlu-Suna and government forces kept on advancing towards them as they seized more towns and villages in the region.

The Shabab militants left their positions in the districts of Bardere, Tulo Barwako, Garbaharey and Elwak of the Gedo region. Their militias are reported to have escaped to the bay and Bakol regions.

Ahlusuna National Salvation Forces (ANSF) militias and government forces are also reported to be heading towards Garbaharey district, the capital of the Gedo region to put the district under their control.

Government forces were able to take control of some districts in the Gedo region apart from Belet Hawo district where the Al-shabab insurgents were heavily defeated.
