Addis Ababa (Sunatimes) The president of Ghana John Atta Mills has described the situation of Somalia as unacceptable. Mills urged member countries of the African Union to engage themselves in the Somali peace process.

Mills made the remark while addressing delegates at the ongoing African Union (AU) and African Union Mission for Somalia (AMISOM) conference in Accra on Monday.

The conference is being attended by African Members of Parliament drawn from the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and the Transitional Federal Parliament (TFP) of Somalia. It is under the theme: “The Role of the African Union in support of the Djibouti Peace Process for Somalia.”

AU’s special envoy for Somalia and former Ghanaian president, Jerry Rawlings also spoke during the opening of the conference. Rawlings said that it was possible for Somalia to achieve peace if all security related activities are carried out appropriately.

Rawlings also urged the warring groups in the country to peacefully solve their differences.

The AU/AMISOM conference on the Djibouti peace process will end on Wednesday.
