Mogadishu (Sunatimes) The president of the Somali break away region of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamud Silanyo has announced a presidential pardon to forty one prisoners who were recently arrested by Somaliland forces in Kalshale village.

The prisoners were arrested when Somaliland forces clashed with rebel militias of Sol, Sanag and Cayn (SSC).

The former prisoners were released from prisons in Lasananod and Hatgeysia districts. Most of them are in Lasanaod district of the Sol region, already enjoying their freedom.

Elsewhere, a ceremony to destroy water reservoirs that were built in Kalshale village was today held in that area. The reservoirs were the cause of the conflict between SSC rebels and Somaliland forces.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from both sides that were involved in the recent fighting including the spokesman for Somaliland’s presidential office, Abdullahi Mohamed Ukuse. Ukuse said the prisoners were released to restore calm in the area.

Somali communities in the Diaspora and other stake holders have been calling for the violence in Kalshale to be stopped in the last few days.
