SRINAGAR, (Sunatimes) In North Kashmir’s Sopore town army is
reportedly carrying out Census in different localities and the troops are going
from house to house collecting every detail of families in a particular
locality, the charge army vehemently denied.
According to reports, the army was seen in
some localities collecting the information about the residents. The information
reports said the army is collection the number of family members and their
jobs.
Some of the residents complained that army is
giving them computerized forms to get them filled. These forms reports said are
being handed over to the village heads and they have been asked to get them
completed.
A report said army trying to know that some
boys, who police claim are missing from last one year.
Locals, however, are surprised with the Army’s
latest ‘Census’ and term the collection of personnel details by the Army as
intrusion to privacy. They alleged that the army men have asked them to note
down all the details, even telephone numbers used by the family members on the
computerized form.
The residents said if army requires any
information, they can seek it from the local police stations or revenue
authorities.
Army spokesman Lt Col J S Barar vehemently
denied the allegations. “These allegations are baseless and an act to create
the wedge between the people of Sopore and army,” he said.
Meanwhile as the second phase is going on the exercise is including the enumeration of paramilitary CRPF and BSF, army men and other non-state subjects along with the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. “All the people including armed forces and non-residents who would be present in the state within the reference period from Feb 9 to Feb 28 would be tallied among the state population,” a census official said
