Mogadishu (Sunatimes) The chairman of Somali drought prevention committee, Ibrahim Nur Habeb said officers from the Transitional Government’s military have on Saturday disrupted a food distribution exercise in Hamar Weyne district.

Habeb accused the officers of stopping members of his committee from distributing relief food to over three thousand persons displaced by drought and the ongoing clashes in Mogadishu.

Habeb said they could not reach out to more than six hundred people as government forces arrived at the distribution center and halted the exercise. However, police officers patrolling the area clashed with the military officers and some people were injured in the clash.

The drought prevention committee was distributing food from donors to drought and violence victims who recently arrived in Hamar Weyne district when the incident occurred.

Chairman of the drought prevention team, Ibrahim Habeb urged leaders of the military to force to control the junior officers and stop them from interfering with relief distribution exercise going on around the capital. He also urged local and international aid groups to donate more relief to victims of drought and violence in the country.
