Mogadishu (Sunatimes) Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo said on Wednesday that most of Al-shabab leaders have fled Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, where his government and the insurgent group are fighting over it’s control.

Together with the minister for defense, the Premier issued the statement while addressing the media after a meeting they had with representatives of civil society groups in Mogadishu.

The premier also said that the Transitional Government Forces did not had a strong opposition from Al-shabab fighters in today’s fighting, where they have seized strategic positions in Mogadishu from the militants.

Farmajo also asked the Somali people to support TFG and African Union forces in their operations against Al-shabab Militias. He praised the forces for today’s well done job.

The TFG, African Union Somali Mission forces and pro-government Ahlu-Sunna fighters have on Wednesday launched an attack against Al-shabab in three different regions. Al-shabab insurgents have been defeated in those clashes and the government allied forces made some advancement.

However, the fighting was still going on in the Hiran and Gedo regions even as the government claimed victory.
