    Somalia:TFG Claims Victory in Today’s Clashes

Farmajo and Fiqi issued the statement in a meeting they had today with some representatives of civil society groups in Mogadishu.

Mogadishu (Sunatimes) The Somali Transitional Federal Government has issued a statement on the ongoing fighting between Al-shabab insurgents and forces loyal to the Government in Mogadishu, Gedo and Hiran regions.

Prime Minister, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and minister for Defense Abdihakim Hajji Fiqi said the Transitional Government forces have made some advancement in several parts of Mogadishu, Hiran and Gedo regions. The two leaders said the government has achieved victory over Al-shabab in today’s clashes.

Farmajo and Fiqi issued the statement in a meeting they had today with some representatives of civil society groups in Mogadishu.

TFG forces and militias allied to them launched an attack against Al-shabab insurgents in Gedo and Hiran regions today. Minister for Defense Abdihakim Fiqi mentioned Belet Weyne, Yed and Beled Hawo districts as the areas where the fighting was going.

Government and African Union peace keepers also took over strategic Al-shabab bases in Mogadishu in an early morning fight on Wednesday. The government is fighting Shabab militants in it’s quest fro the control of the country.
