Mogadishu (Sunatimes) Forces of the Somali Transitional Government supported by the African Union peace keepers took over some more strategic bases in Mogadishu on Wednesday.

The government forces now control five strategic and important locations in the city that were previously under the control of Al-shabab insurgent group.

All those positions are located around the strategic Warshadah road. The areas include; former headquarters for the defense ministry, former military radar center, Jale Siyad Military College, Tusbahle wells and the Dabley center.

The fighting has started this morning after the African Union forces arrived at the former jale Siyad military college, witnesses said.

Although there were no immediate casualties reported, residents of Hodan and Howlwadag districts told radio Bar-kulan that some mortar attacks and bullets were hitting their residential houses.

Traffic in Warshadah road which is used by many Mogadishu residents was also halted by the early morning fight.

Al-shabab militants and the Somali TFG forces supported by AMSIOM are fighting over the control of Mogadishu. TFG and AMISOM forces have been advancing in their quest for Mogadishu in the past few months.
