SRINAGAR, (Sunatimes) Suspected Guerrillas carried out two attacks in Sopore town. The first attack was carried out at the Warpora police post at around 5:30 AM in the morning. The firing reports continued for about 20 minutes. They added that the post was attacked from three sides, though the police retaliated, however the suspected militants managed to escape from the incident site. “No one was injured. The guerrillas fire indiscriminately on the police post and they fled from spot,” a senior police officer said here. After the incident, panic gripped the area and huge columns of police and 22 Rashtriya Rifles troopers carried out the search operation. However, no one was arrested.

 Police media cell in a statement said that today some unidentified militants fired upon police post Warpora, Sopore falling under the jurisdiction of police station Sopore, the fire was retaliated. However, guerrillas managed to escape taking advantage of darkness. However, no loss of life or injury was reported in this incident, the statement said. In another attack, suspectedguerrillas lobbed a grenade towards the camp of 22 Rashtriya Rifles at Ganjoo House Sopore, located adjacent to Government Degree College Sopore at 3.30 PM. Ganjoo House is battalion headquarters of counter-insurgency 22 Rashtriya Rifles. The grenade missed the target and exploded on road side causing panic among passers-by. The grenade according to reports was lobbed from Badamibagh side. After the grenade attack panic gripped the area and the shopkeepers near the camp closed the shutters and went helter shelter. Police and 22 RR troopers carried out a search operation of Badamibagh however, no one was arrested. Sopore has started to upsurge in militancy related incidents and on February 2, suspected militants lobbed rifle grenades at the residence of former PCC chief and senior congress leader Ghulam Rasool Kar. On February 5, two civilians were injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire at two places in Sopore town. It is pertinent to mention here that police is claiming the presence of around two dozen active militants in Sopore
