MOGADISHU (Sunatimes)- As the term of the current government ends in 22 of August, reliable sources have disclosed to Sunatimes that the Speaker of parliament, wants to become the president of Somalia, one of the latest developments by the ineffective Somali officials to retain presidential position.

In Somalia, being president is easier as bread purchase for armed top fishes whose ambitions becomes true with a gunpoint and politicians using clan power.

The sources say the Speaker is trying to canvass support from the international community for ascending to the Somali presidency, a demand that may not be adequate for the world.

"A new president and speaker will be elected when the term of the current government ends. The presidential candidate will be known by then. I will run for the post of the Speaker," Sharif Hassan told the press in a recent press conference in Djibouti.

The Speaker, who is a good in networking, is currently in Djibouti, where he is attending a conference on security in the Horn of Africa region, especially in Somalia which has been in civil strife for 20 years.

The sources told Sunatimes website the Speaker held talks with some members of the international community in Nairobi last month and asked them to accept his candidature for the post of presidency.

The president of Somalia, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmad and his prime minister have opposed the decision in which the parliament extended its term. Two leaders are currently drawing up political tactics to counter the move taken by the Speaker.

Reliable sources say President Sharif is campaigning to retain his post. However, there are reports saying that the international community does not want President Sharif to hold office [once his term ends] as he failed to deliver his demands.

The horn of Africa nation has been without government since 1991 after dictator Mohamed Siad Barre was overthrown by armed clan warlords that later plunged the country into endless civil war.
