GAROWE (Sunatimes)- Somalia’s baffled Puntland semiautonomous says there is need for consultations of whether Mogadishu will continue to serve as the Somali capital, one of the latest foolproof statements against Somalia’s incompetent government.
Speaking to the reporters in Garowe town on Wednesday, Abdi Hasan Jimale, Puntland's minister of federal affairs, said Mogadishu used to be the capital of Somalia, adding that there is doubt whether it is currently the capital, a word he did not explain to the reporters who were present at the presser.
“ I have to make clear today that Mogadishu is no longer the capital of Somalia, it’s in doubt now” The minister said.
Analysts described the move as ‘ Wish’ Puntland is trying to get the capital of Somalia for it’s regions.
Mr. Jimale noted that the Somali people need to discuss where the capital of the country would be, saying that Puntland has banned the Somali constitutional commission from visiting its territory, and that drafting a new constitution for Somalia at the moment is illegal.
“ The last time a widely accepted constitution was drafted for the country was during the time of the late Muhammad Siad Bare, but nothing accurate is going on now” he said.
Puntland officials have recently been making series of anti-Somali government moves, the key one being severing of ties.
The horn of Africa nation has been without government since 1991 after warlords overthrown dictator Mohamed Siad Barre from power that plunged the country into durable chaos.
