Drought-hit Somalis in need of help

DAKAR (Sunatimes) – As the drought effect in Somalia sweeps many regions and people dying at the eyes of Alshabaab extremists, the Organization of the Islamic Conference has called for emergency aid to the people affected by drought in Somalia.

OIC also sent an alarm to the all governmental agencies and United Nations to prevent starvation in Somalia, where many people lost their lives.

In a statement they issued on Tuesday, the body said more than two million people are facing starvation in the war-torn Somalia, and there was a need to provide them with humanitarian aid, adding that many displaced people do not have shelter.

To move on for the aid, OIC noted it was ready to provide emergency aid to Somalia. The value of the OIC aid is over 2 million US dollars and the beneficiaries will include those affected by starvation, shortage of water and health problems.

There have been several calls from the international community asking for relief aid to Somalia, as many regions have been hit by drought that affected people and livestock.
