SRINAGAR, Feb 2 (Sunatimes)- Suspected guerrillas today lobbed two rifle grenades at the houses of senior political leader in Sopore town of North Kashmir in Indian held Kashmir. The attacked came two days after the killing two sisters in Muslim Peer area of Sopore by the unidentified gunmen.

Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president,  and senior Congress leader Ghulam Rasool Kar has a narrow escape after suspected guerillas lobbed two rifled grenade at his residence located inside the fortified town hall area of Sopore town

 According to police sources two rifle grenades were lobbed at the residence of Kar at 10.20 AM and they missed the target and exploded in the compound of leaders house. The explosion damaged the window panes of the house. Near to the residence of Kar, the office cum residence of SP Sopore is also located.

After the incident senior civil and police officers reached the spot and the area was cordoned off and searches were conducted. However no body was arrested.

Panic gripped the area and the shopkeepers closed their shutters and commuters and the traffic disappeared   from near by Iqbal market Sopore.

The senior congress leader had returned from New Delhi yesterday evening after the medical check up. Family sources said Kar was in New Delhi for at least three months. At the time attack, his wife, and daughters were present, besides the senior congress leader in the house.

The former PCC chief after the incident while talking to reports said that government of India must initiate meaningful dialogue with militants and separatist leadership. “The government of India must not keep the Kashmir issue lingering,” he said adding that meaningful dialogue will pave way for the resolution of long pending Kashmir issue.

Sopore police chief Muhammad Altaf Khan has told the reporters that the attack was carried by the guerillas at him as his residence is located close to the residence of senior congress leader in the fortified town hall area.

Today’s attack came two days after the killing of tow sisters in Muslim Peer area by unidentified gunmen.
