Manifesto for Djibouti

A LETTER FROM ABDOURAHMAN BOREH

Dear citizens,

Crisis and decline in Djibouti can be reversed. Thereis another way; another vision.

The poor don’t have to get poorer. The economy canbe revived. Investment will come back, and the economy will once again grow as it has done in the past. Good relations with Djibouti’s neighbours will be restored and improved. Water and electricity can be provided. To everyone.

Today there is no sense of national unity. The country is divided by tribe, which breeds mistrust. The middle class has been decimated. Now there is only rich and poor, with the poor getting poorer. But the poor do not have to get poorer.

To achieve such a vision, hard work is necessary. Institutions will have to change. Many laws will need to be revised. New relationships will need to be developed. The politics will have to change too – not just a new face at the helm, but also a new system.

The manifesto in this website sets out a series of priorities for change and explains how such changes will be made. It won’t be easy. But it must be done.

If you are a Djibouti citizen in or out of the country, I urge you to consider carefully the proposed reforms. The manifesto is a summary. It is not the whole programme. However, it will encourage you. You will see that hard work is already going on to revive Djibouti and give a better life to all the people. All the people!

I also urge you to vote for reform at the coming Presidential election in April 2011. I am putting myself forward as a candidate. I have the right professional team. Relations with neighbouring countries, and with those who have bases in our country, are good. I have made sure of that.

Please support us.

We believe in a peaceful and beneficial transition of power, and we believe that all politicians who do not wish to support our plans have the right to do so, and should be treated with dignity and respect.

Best wishes,

Abdourahman Boreh
