Kismayo (Sunatimes) Hundreds of Somali women who have been banned from working in the Kismayo port have today held a demonstration in Kismayo town.
The women requested Al-shabab insurgents in the coastal city to cancel the ban and allow them to continue with their work. However the militia’s prosecution officer in the Juba regions Maalim Mohamud Adan refused to hear their plea and threatened to punish them.
Some of the women use to sell Khat, tea and fast foods to the port workers while some of them were involved in other port activities.
The insurgents also ordered women engaed in other small time business activities in the town to close their business by 16:00hrs local time. They threatened to punish those who will not obey the order.
Some women who defied the order were also fined while some were brutally punished by the militias.
