Nairobi (Sunatimes) Three hundred Somali police officers have today started a three month training in Kenya. The officers who are already serving in the Somali police force are expected to use the training as a refreshment course.
Officers from the African Union’s peace keeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM) are expected to offer the training in Kenya’s Manyani camp which is located near Mombassa port city.
The Italian government is funding the training and the trainees are expected to gain more skills in providing security in a conflict setting like Mogadishu.
Today’s official opening ceremony of the training was attended by dignitaries among them Somalia’s minister for Internal Affairs Abdishakur Sheikh Hassan and the police commissioner Gen. Ali Mohamed Hassan.
Representatives from the AU and the international community also attended the ceremony.
