Hobyo, Galmudug –The long-anticipated construction of Hobyo Port has officially commenced, marking a major step forward for trade, investment, and maritime infrastructure in Galmudug State and Somalia at large.
The project is being executed by a prominent Turkish construction company, whose team of experienced engineers has arrived in Hobyo to oversee and lead the implementation of the port development.
Heavy machinery, safety equipment, generators, and modern construction tools have been deployed to the site, with initial groundwork, excavation, and foundational reinforcement now underway.
Galmudug Ministers and Officials Flock to Hobyo
The city of Hobyo is currently witnessing high-level visits from Galmudug government officials, including the Minister of Commerce, the Minister of Ports, and other senior administrative staff from the Hobyo District. Their visit is focused on inspecting progress and coordinating efforts with the Turkish engineering team.
Officials stressed that the port will be a game-changer for the region — unlocking economic growth, job creation, and transforming Hobyo into a strategic maritime hub connected to international markets.
