MOGADISHU (Sunatimes) Fighting in the Somalia capital Mogadishu between government troops backed by the African Union peacekeepers and the Al-Qaeda linked Islamist group Al-Shabaab has killed 11 people and wounded dozens more, local witnesses said on Thursday.
According to local residents, the latest round of fighting erupted in Hodan district near by the presidential headquarter where the exchange of heavy artillery shells could be heard.
Al-Shabaab militants attacked the military bases of government and AU troops. Several mortar rounds were reported landed in civilian areas causing deaths and injuries.
“For the past three hours, we have received many wounded civilians, some died of bleeding because they were serious.” Medical staff in Madina hospital said.
Gun-battle became part of the daily life in Mogadishu bringing death, wound and displacing for the civilians. The Somalia’s terror linked groups of Al-Shabaab and Hezbul Islam - who had several times dismissed the government offer of peace deal – control much of southern Somalia and continue what they called ‘the Jihad against unbelievers’ vowing to impose sharia law on entire the country.
