MOGADISHU (Sunatimes) Heavily armed clan militiamen loyal to former warlord in Somalia have forcefully taken over the control of Mogadishu’s port, reports said on Monday.

The militia who are under the command of Mohamed Jama Faruh, a parliament member raided and sieged the port last night ordering all the staff to stop working.

Mr. Furuh spoke about the action by his men that took the control of the port saying this was the right decision to correct the mismanagement and corruption.

“Unless these problems are solved the port will remain closed.” He added.

Mr. Furuh was a former warlord in Somalia capital Mogadishu and used to control the port of Mogadishu before the Islamic courts Union came into the country’s politics.

No word is yet from government officials on the closure of the port.
