Immediately after the ruling was made, a number of Somalis led by the ambassador and the Somali consul in Nairobi marched to the land where the embassy building is located. The joyful crowd was chanting “our property is back”.

It was alleged that the building was sold to a Kenyan of Asian origin a few years after Somalia’s government collapsed. Some Kenyan leaders were also implicated in the illegal sale of the Somali embassy property.
