Mogadishu (Sunatimes) Al-shabab militia today took over the control of Burhakaba district from Hizbul-Islam insurgents. Shabab militants took control of the central Somalia town after battling with Hizbul-Islam militias for hours.
The two militia groups clashed this morning and two civilians are reported to be among the dead. However, it is not clear the loss suffered by the groups that fought.
The fighting started when Al-shabab militias attacked Hizbul-Islam’s main militia base in Burhakabo. Shabab succeeded in ousting their counterparts. Al-shabab are said to have been preparing to take over Burhakaba before as they previously staged many other attacks.
Burhakaba is the last district controlled by Hizbul-Islam militias in the Bay region as Al-shabab seized many other areas they controlled in the region.
Although the two militant groups oppose the TFG and made several efforts to join together, their differences are increasing as they attack each other to conquer more land and get more followers.
