Mogadishu (ST) – The Somalia President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and his newly named Premier Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed rift over the formation of the new cabinet, members of the partliament confirmed.

The new PM Mohamed Abdullahi farmajo is supposed to form a new cabinet consiting of new faces that can work for the restoration of the law and order in the war ravaged capital city, Mogadishu, but the president and the speaker of the parliament want to have their supporters in the short list.

Lawmaker Ali Sheikh Ali who was a mong number of lawmakers who had a meeting with the PM said, “The PM wants to nominate new short and effective cabinet, he wants to nominate educated members, but the president and the speaker want to have members supporting their agenda in the list”

"the president and the speaker must stop influencing the PM, they must think of the public interest instead of their personal interests" Ali added.

Sources in the presidential palace confirmed that the president and the PM are divided over the some members that the president suggested the PM to add in the list.

The speaker of the parliament who tried to stop the nomination of the new PM through parliamentary vote in October also wants to have at least seven of his close friends to be in the new cabinet short list.

The rift between the three top officials retarded the formation of the cabinet and paralyzed the government which is dealing with violent insurgents loyal to Alqaeda supremo Osama Bin Laden.

The former PM Omar Abdirashid Sharmaarke resigned two months ago after months of cronicle dispute between him and the president.

It's normal that the leadership of the transitional government to dispute over the leadership since the government was formed in Kenya in 2004.

Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991 when disgruntled warlords over through the military regime led by former president Mohamed Siyad Barre.
