Beled-hawo (Sunatimes) Kenyan police have closed the border between Mandera district and Somalia’s BeledHawo. Traffic and business activities between the two districts came to stand still.

The Kenyan government has announced that it was tightening the security of its border after the political situation of Beledhawo changed a week ago following heavy fighting between Somali Government forces and Al-shabab militias.

However, traders from BeledHawo who had business connections with their colleagues in Kenya are now at loss as they are unable to cross into Kenya.

It is reported that the Kenyan police closed the border following orders from senior government officials who wanted the security of Mandera district be safeguarded.
