MOGADISHU (Sunatimes) At least five civilians have been killed and 13 more wounded on Thursday in a fresh fighting between Somalia’s government troops supported by the African Union forces and militants loyal to Al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam insurgent groups in the capital Mogadishu.
The dead and wounded were hit by the exchanged gunfire in the southern parts of the capital. “Some of the injured people are in critical condition and we are doing our best to treat them.” Ali Muse, the head of the ambulances for the emergency.
Today’s fighting came after five days of consecutive ground battle between the warring sides that left dozens dead and hundreds wounded.
None of the opposing sides talk about the Thursday fighting which had an impact on city’s traffic and commerce.
The African Union mission in Somalia now seem to be spread in the capital as on Sunday the Ugandan and Burundian troops captured new grounds from the rebel groups.
Al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam which are linked to Al-Qaeda have been waging three-year war aimed to topple the internationally recognized Somalia government but this has been defused by internal rifts among the Islamists.
