Somalia

DJIBOUTI (Sunatimes)-candidates standing for to fill post of prime minister of the Somali transitional federal government headed by President Sheikh Sharif Sh. Ahmed, increased the latest days in the capital Mogadishu, after the resignation of former prime minister Omar A/Rashid Ali Sharma’arke.

There are large campaigns which the candidates who are standing for the vacant post of the first minister, carry on by giving speech to the local and international media and promising what they will do if they are elected to that responsibility.

The candidates are five in number up to now and possibly the number may rise to ten as there are also tribes having meetings to which they plan to get the post to a man of their own clan and calling president Sheikh Sharif to consider them and informing him their right for their politicians to be appointed.

The acting Prime Minister Abdi-weli Ibrahim known as Gonjeh, Mohamed A/risak Abukar from UNPOS officials, A/karim Hassan Jama’, director of the presidential palace, Prof. Mohudin Ali Yusuf, expert for education affairs and Sa’id Jama’ Korshel, and veteran for sport affairs are all hoping to be nominated to the next Somali prime minister post.

Somali interim president Sharif Sheikh Ahmed traveled to the United States of America where he had attended UN summit in New York and international contact group conference in Madrid of Spain last month and international community confirmed the seriousness of Somali situation and called for president Sharif to name the prime minister quickly.

Mr. Ahmed reached neighboring country of Ethiopia and met Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Sanawi and equally Mr. Meles urged Sharif to choose the prime minister quickly and Sharif’s travel concluded in Djabuti where he had talks with the authorities of that country and he returned home back.

However the choice to nominate the second prime minister is shared by international community and Somali president although the announcement which the final step is will only be particular one for President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.

The candidates which are possibly expected to appointed are both the acting prime minister Abdiweli Gonjeh and Sa’id Jama’ Korshel who arrived in Mogadishu yesterday although there might be other candidate that is not among above ones to be nominated as international community have great influence about Somali political issues and would dictate for Somali heads every thing they (international community) like and the individual should be whom they are satisfied with.
