As Kenya prepares for a new presidential election, the country's democratic processes are under intense international scrutiny. Kenya is a vital partner for the UK and other countries in counter-terrorism, and is dealing with significant security threats at home while playing a major role in peacekeeping in Somalia.

In this private event, two major figures in the Government of Kenya will discuss the challenge of navigating democracy and security at this critical time. Ambassador Monica Juma, D.Phil, CBS is Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was previously Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, and has served in a wide variety of posts in both government and inter-governmental organisations. Ambassador Martin Kimani, PhD isthe Director of Kenya’s NationalCounterTerrorism Centre and Special Envoy CVE. Prior to this role, he was Permanent Representative and Head of Mission to the United Nations at Nairobi and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
