Today World Peace Day is being celebrated in a country that is regarded as a failed state, Somalia. Celebrations are going on in Mogadishu, the centre of Somalia’s two decades of conflict, and other parts of the country.
Unfortunately, the different groups that are involved in Somalia’s conflict did not declare ceasefire today. However, many Somalis still hope that normalcy will return to their country, which many have left to seek refuge elsewhere.
Asha Omar Gesdir, who is the chairlady of the National Somali Women Association, told the press that Somali women will today participate in observing the International Day for Peace by showing the need for peace in Somalia.
Different civil society and social groups that operate in Mogadishu have been today preparing to mark the important day.
This year’s International Day for Peace is being observed in Somalia where some of the worst clashes have taken place and local citizens are yearning for peace.
