Somalia news Mogadishu (Sunatimes) The Prime Minister of Somalia, Omar Abdirashid Sharma’arke, resigned today. PM Sharma’arke submitted his letter of resignation to President Sheriff Shiekh Ahmed on Tuesday morning during a meeting that was held in Villa Somalia.

The resignation of Dr. Sharma’arke comes after weeks of disagreement between himself and the President. The disagreement between President Sheriff and PM Sharmarke is said to have been caused by Somalia’s draft constitution.

The PM has been waiting for weeks for his cabinet to be approved by the transitional parliament. Recently, Somali law makers threatened to bring a motion of non-confidence against the Prime Minister.

Dr. Sharma’arke claimed that the disagreement between his office and that of the President was the main cause of his resignation.

President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed accepted the resignation of Dr. Sharma’arke whom he congratulated for his decision. Sheikh Sharif also promised to appoint a new Prime Minster very soon.

Bar-kulan.
