Mogadishu(Sunatimes) Somalia's scapegoated prime minister Omar Abdirashid has resigned from his position as the prime minister of the embattled Somali government.

Sharma’arke submitted his letter of resignation to President Sheriff Shiekh Ahmed on Tuesday morning during a meeting that was held in Villa Somalia.

The resignation of Dr. Sharma’arke comes after weeks of disagreement between himself and the President. The disagreement between President Sheriff and PM Sharmarke is said to have been caused by Somalia’s draft constitution.

The PM has been waiting for weeks for his cabinet to be approved by the transitional parliament. Recently, Somali law makers threatened to bring a motion of non-confidence against the Prime Minister.

Dr. Sharma’arke claimed that the disagreement between his office and that of the President was the main cause of his resignation.

President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed accepted the resignation of Dr. Sharma’arke whom he congratulated for his decision. Sheikh Sharif also promised to appoint a new Prime Minster very soon.

The country's besieged U.N backed government is a victim for repeated political wrangling among the top leaders that sidetracked their attention to fight the powerful terror group of Alshabaab which dug up trenches around the state house.

Somalia has been without government since 1991 after armed clan warlords have overthrown dictator Mohamed Siad barre which unleashed constant violence which disabled the country's system and peace and stopped the humanitarian activities for the deprived Somalia who most infested in IDP camps.

Sharmake is the son of the former second President and first Prime Minister of Somalia, Abdirashid Ali Shermarke, who was assassinated in 1969.

He studied at Carleton University in Ottawa, where he obtained degrees in political science and political economy

He has worked in a diplomatic capacity for the United Nations in Sri Lanka and Sierra Leone, and served as a political advisor on the Darfur conflict in Sudan.

Election
On the February 13, 2009, the current President of Somalia, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, nominated Sharmarke to become Prime Minister at a meeting in Djibouti.

Political analysts are also optimistic about the selection. It is seen as a successful attempt to shore up support for the Transitional Federal Government both among the diaspora and within the country.
