MOGADISHU Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo will on official State Visit to Egypt next week after an invitation from Egypt's Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, officials at the Somali Embassy in Cairo confirmed.
This will be Mr. Farmajo's first visit to Egypt since he took office in February this year and comes amid growing pressure by the Saudi Kingdom on the Federal Government of Somalia over its neutral position on the current Gulf diplomatic crisis.
Egypt is among the four Arab nations who severed ties with the tiny Gulf country, Qatar in June over allegation of supporting terrorism which Qatar rejected.
"President will pay State Visit to Egypt and will meet his Egyptian Counterpart President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi." said an announcement letter from the Somali Embassy.
The Embassy also informed Somali community in Cairo to participate a meeting on Monday where the President will address members of the community.
At the meeting with el-Sisis, the two presidents will focus on bilateral relations and as sources told Somali Update Online, President Farmajo will make formal appeal to Egypt's hand in training and equipping Somali security forces and the battle against terrorist groups.
Egypt has also expressed desire to establish military presence in Somalia and probably the case will be on top of the agenda of the meeting. Turkey which is key rival against el-Sisi administration has just finished building its largest military base outside Somali capital and ready to be opened officially.
Despite many pledges coming from Arab rulers, It is not clear if el-Sisi will help Somalia turn from its neutrality position towards the Arab Gulf crisis.
