The IDPs who have camped in old government structures have been forced to pay at least 500,000 Somali shillings (close to thirty dollars) to the militia group or vacate the premises.
Abdi Osman who is one of the IDPs in the camp complained that some of the displaced persons in the camp could afford to pay the money as that is what they spend for two or more days.
Al-shabab has announced that the IDPs should pay the money as they occupy government buildings. The militia group said that the money was part of a grand collection to finance their war with the Transitional Federal Government and African union peace keeping forces.
Al-shabab further threatened the IDPs that they will be evicted from the premises if they did not pay the money with in twenty four hours.
