Mogadishu (Sunatimes)The Transitional Federal Government of Somalia has announced that its security forces are working with the African Union peacekeepers to contain recent offensives by the Al-shabab militia group.

In a press statement released by the Ministry of Information, the TFG announced that there are security measures, which will be put in place by its security forces, to ensure that the people of Somalia are safe from other criminal activity by Al-shabab militia.

The press statement also said that TFG security forces have killed at least twenty five Al-shabab militias, including Abdulahi Mortar, an extremist military and tactical leader who executed numerous mortar attacks on civilians in the city. Over seventy Al-shabab terrorists were wounded in yesterday’s fighting alone.

The Minister of Information said: "All our preparations mean that Al-shabab are left with ever more desperate options. The city will remain on high alert. We know where they are targeting and we are doing everything we can, with outstanding support from AMISOM, to contain the threat. Without the necessary forces, Al-shabab may still get through to murder innocent people, so we need the citizens of Mogadishu to remain vigilant".

Mogadishu is experiencing heavy fighting that is going on for the fourth consecutive day as Al-shabab declared "a massive war" against the TFG and AMISOM forces. More than seventy civilians are reported to have died since Monday and more than two hundred have been injured, and are currently being treated in different hospitals in Mogadishu.
