Somali TFG Public Servants complete training in Uganda

Kampala August 21st, 2010: Over forty (40) Public Servants from various ministries of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia have completed a two week training course at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI).

The training which is part of the African Union Mission for Somalia, AMISOM’s Capacity Building Programme for the Somali TFG Public Service was conducted jointly by the

Uganda Management Institute (UMI) and the University Of South Africa School Of Business Leadership.

The Deputy Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi said that "Normalcy can only return to Somalia if the

government is able to provide basic services to the people and this can be made possible if there is a public service that is equipped with the necessary knowledge and is committed to service delivery. What we are doing here therefore is to help the TFG build that public service."

The forty (40) Somali TFG Public Servants who have just completed the two week training are expected to undergo another two weeks of mentorship in five selected African Union member ountries that have emerged from conflict.

The African Union (AU) as part of its overall strategy for the restoration of peace and stability in Somalia considers the immediate capacitating of the government institutions a priority.
