    Zambia: Somali accused of murdering Ndola house boy appears in court

    The Somali national who is accused of shooting dead his Zambian house servant last week has appeared in the Ndola magistrate’s court for murder.

The Somali national who is accused of shooting dead his Zambian house servant last week has appeared in the Ndola magistrate’s court for murder.

Before Magistrate Ben Akende was Omar Mohammed Hashi, 30, of Catchpole Flat number 1 Kopa Road, Northrise area, who is charged with one count of murder, contrary to Section 200 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Hashi, a businessman by profession, shot dead his house servant, Holland Kabaso, of Chipulukusu Township on December 14, 2012, after the deceased demanded to be paid his salary arrears of two months amounting to K700, 000. 00.

Hashi is expected to appear in court again on January 3, 2013, for another mention.

He has been reminded in custody since murder case are non-bailable.

The killing of Kabaso sparked riots from Ndola residents who looted Somali owned business premises and damaged 38 houses belonging to Somalians in Ndola.

Police were compelled to evacuate more than 600 Somalian nationals living in Ndola for safety.
