Minutes before the final whistle blew on Africa’s first World Cup, twin bombs ripped through crowds watching the tournament on television.

The dead include a 25-year-old American aid worker as 70 wounded are still being treated in hospitals.

The first explosion happened in Ethiopian restaurant popular with expatriates, and the second took place at a rugby club where hundreds of people had gathered for the Spain vs Netherlands match.

Speaking to the reporters in Mogadishu, Al Shabab spokesman Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage thanked to the mujahideen that carried out and threatened more attacks in Uganda.

Earlier, Al Shabaab militants in Somalia had threatened to attack Uganda for sending peacekeeping troops to the anarchic country to prop up the Western-backed.

The African Union said the deadly bombings by the Al-Shabaab in Uganda will not have an impact the peacekeeping missions in Somalia.

The AU is now preparing to send reinforcement troops from Uganda and other countries to Somalia to help the weak government restore peace and stability in the country.

The Somali insurgent group al-Shabab last week condemned plans by six East African countries to send reinforcements to shore up the AU peacekeeping mission known as AMISOM.

Uganda is the largest contributor to the 5,000-member AMISOM force, and is preparing to increase its troop commitment.
